If your battery is dead, you might be able to jump jumper cables from any good Samaritan vehicle to jump start it. If you can easily use jumper cables on your car, make sure that there is at least as much energy in the battery on the good Samaritan car as your own. If your vehicle has negative ground and the GS vehicle has positive ground, whether your vehicle has an alternator and the GS vehicle has a generator doesn’t matter as long as you tie up the cables properly.

Follow these steps to safely hop in a start:

Let the jumper cables out.

Buying a set of jumper cables, and storing them in the trunk compartment, is a smart idea. If you don’t have jumper cables, you need to meet a good Samaritan who is not only happy to help you but who also has jumper cables.

Place all cars in either Park or Neutral and shut off the ignition in both automobiles.
Connect one of the Red Clips to your battery’s positive port.

It has “POS” or “+” on it, whether it’s larger than the terminal negative.

Connect the other red clip onto the other car’s supportive port.

Connect the other battery to one of the black clips at the negative end.
Apply the last black clip on your vehicle to an unpainted metal surface which is not near the motor.

Using one of the metal struts which will keep the hood open.

This is what the cables should look like.
Start the motor running, and let the engine run for a few minutes.

Try to get your truck running.
If the hop is working and you start your car, don’t shut down your engine! Driving around, to refuel your battery for at least 15 minutes. If the car isn’t going to operate the next time you ‘re driving it, the battery doesn’t carry a charge and needs replacing.
