Auto Tips to get your Car Ready for Fall

The month of October is designated as “Fall Car Care Month.” Fall is an excellent time to prepare your vehicle for winter conditions, especially before the first snowfall. Use these five simple car-care suggestions for the autumn season.

Examine the Tires

Tires must be checked as part of any vehicle inspection. Examine the depth of the tire tread and any evidence of wear and tear, such as bulges and bald areas. Check and adjust the tire pressure according to the PSI specified in your owner’s handbook or on the driver’s side doorjamb. Tire pressure reduces when the temperature drops, so check your tire pressure on a frequent basis.

Examine the Battery

Make that the battery connections are secure, clean, and free of corrosion. Because harsh winter weather may be difficult for a vehicle’s battery, you should inspect it and the charging system before the cold sets in. Ensure that you replace your battery according to the manufacturer’s instructions and suggestions

Examine the wiper blades, defrosters, and heating system.

Checking your vehicle’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is crucial not just for comfort, but also for safety. In the winter, you’ll need it for defrosting and visibility. Check your wiper blades as well to make sure they’re not cracked, ripped, or leaving streaks on your windshield. Wiper blades should be replaced every six months in most cases. You may check the amount of windshield wiper fluid in your car’s reservoir when changing your wiper blades

Make sure your brakes are in good working order.

It’s critical that your braking system is adequately equipped for winter driving. Bring your car to Nelsons for a wheel brake examination, which includes a road test for braking symptoms, assessment of brake fluid quality and level, and inspection of master cylinder. Brake replacement and installation are also available at our vehicle repair shop

Examine Your Lights

Make sure your headlights and taillights (including brake lights, fog lights, and high-beams) are in good operating order, as you’ll be utilizing them more as the evenings go darker sooner. Examine the clarity of the light lenses as well. Cloudy lights are more difficult to see, reducing your visibility on the road. Your headlights may be cleaned with a few easy solutions.

Regular vehicle maintenance may extend the life of your vehicle and keep you safer on the road. We at Nelsons know what you’re going through. That’s why, in addition to brake checks and tire installation, each store features an automobile repair facility.
